Isabel Marant's path to becoming a symbol of comfortable and cool looks
When Isabel Marant started at the Studio Bercot fashion school in Paris, the best advice she received from the then founder and director was: “Only create designs that you would wear yourself.” To this day, this is the credo and the reason why Isabel Marant's designs are so authentic. After her studies, during which she worked with major labels and personalities such as Chloé and Yohji Yamamoto, she gained some experience in the fashion industry before releasing her first own collection in 1989. The uncomplicated look with influences from various cultures that she brought back from her numerous travels was well received, so it made sense to start her own label. In 1995 she presented her first ready-to-wear collection at fashion week and, with her comfortable and cool looks in boho style, she clearly set herself apart from the glamorous chic that was dominant at the time. With success, as the first boutique on Rue de Charonne followed in 1998 and became an insider tip.
Global success with simple T-shirts and trousers
With the presentation of individual creations from her second ready-to-wear brand, Étoile by Isabel Marant, at the ready-to-wear shows in Paris in 1999, her global fame was unstoppable. The simple, practical and yet stylish items of clothing were so well received that a complete collection was created from them. At Isabel Marant, the focus is primarily on functional materials and natural designs that are aimed at “normal” women. She knows how to combine carefreeness and finesse like no other. Her looks are often characterized by striking shoulders, low waist cuts as well as casual trousers and the boho flair typical of Isabel Marant. Because their style runs like a common thread through all the collections, the designer pieces can be easily combined with one another. There is also a men's line today.
Whether for the red carpet or H&M – unmistakably Isabel Marant
In addition to her simple collections, the Parisian also designs dresses for the red carpet. Nevertheless, it is important to her to create fashion that is aimed at everyone. This is how the collaboration with H&M and the line “Isabel Marant pour H&M” came into being in 2013. This consisted, among other things, of oversized coats made of wool, quilted jackets with batik patterns, leather pants in a biker look and fringed leather boots - all inexpensive replicas of the fashion show designs. The high quality is reflected in every piece of clothing.
