Stella McCartney – The journey from “little daughter” to recognized fashion designer
Cheeky, cool and yet graceful, elegant and girly – Stella McCartney initially brought a breath of fresh air into the fashion industry as head designer of the French fashion house Chloé. She was just 25 years old then. In 2001 she decided to found her own label of the same name. By then, the daughter of Beatles singer Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney had already made a big name for herself in the fashion world. Whether it's the tailored trouser suits for women, T-shirts with statement sayings or playful bikinis with fruit motifs, Stella McCartney's looks are definitely not boring. And also, or perhaps especially, because she now creates much more feminine and subtle fashion, the mother of four is one of the top designers in the fashion world.
Stella McCartney was born in London in 1971. Her parents were none other than Beatles singer Paul McCartney and his wife Linda. At the tender age of twelve, she discovered her passion for designing fashion and began sewing clothes herself. To promote her talent, Paul McCartney got his daughter an internship with Christian Lacroix in Paris - the first step in her career as a popular fashion designer loved by numerous stars. Determined, she then completed an art course and enrolled to study at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. She was often labeled as the “daughter of”, but her final collection, for which she had already won over Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, quickly silenced the critical voices. Her entire graduate collection was subsequently sold in a boutique in Tokyo.
The self-confident Stella McCartney's breakthrough came two years after her graduation, when the fashion label Chloé brought the young talent to Paris as head designer and she succeeded Karl Lagerfeld. She helped the company, which was struggling at the time, out of the crisis with her young, cheeky and playful fashion collections and placed the luxury brand back in the top ranks of fashion labels. In 2000 she even designed pop icon Madonna's wedding dress.
The founding of your own label
A year later, in 2001, the Brit left the company and founded her own label, Stella McCartney, with financial support from the Gucci Group. She is best known for modern, fresh looks with a touch of playfulness and feminine romance. The girly clothes, which you can also find in Buddy&Selly's designer second-hand online shop, are often characterized by puffed sleeves, lace and flounces and are presented in subtle pastel colors. At the same time, she incorporates seductive elements and imaginative details. Oversize and masculine cuts also characterize Stella McCartney's designs. It seems to be precisely the interplay between feminine and narrow lines, which her famous tight-fitting trouser suit represents, and the voluminous, sometimes coarse shapes that is so loved by numerous stars and celebrities. Over the years she expanded her range to include accessories, sunglasses and a perfume and cosmetics line.
