Iris von Arnim – Unusual start to a fashion career
The fact that Iris von Arnim became one of Germany's most famous fashion designers can be attributed to a tragic event. In the early 1970s, von Arnim spent some time in the hospital after a serious car accident and began knitting there. The pastime soon turned into a business idea. In 1976, Iris von Arnim moved to Hamburg and opened a boutique in the Hanseatic city. In 1979, the designer showed a collection for the first time at a fashion fair in Düsseldorf. At the beginning of the 1980s she enriched the German knitting market with unusual color combinations and inlays. She was also one of the first fashion designers to bring cashmere wool to the German clothing market. This earned her the name “Cashmere Queen”. At the beginning of the 1990s, she supplemented her knitwear collection for the first time with a thematically coordinated ready-to-wear item.
The Cashmere Queen takes off
Since the 1990s, Iris von Arnim has developed into one of Germany's most recognized fashion designers. She has her very high-quality fashion produced in Italy and runs her own shops in places such as Munich, Düsseldorf and Kampen on Sylt. In 2010 she founded a partnership with former German supermodel Claudia Schiffer to develop a cashmere collection. Schiffer took over the creative management, while von Armin took care of product development, production and sales. The two famous women of fashion worked together successfully for two seasons. The Cashmere Queen has also been selling a men's collection since 2013. Iris von Armin's collections have not been limited to sweaters and cardigans for years. Her label also offers trousers, skirts, dresses, tops and accessories.
